So many have asked, "Did YOU paint the room at Lone Oak Intermediate?!?" and I quickly respond, "No, my students did all of the work! I only helped" Below are pictures of the proof. . .
The room’s transformation occurred in October 2009, but I am sure that the students at LOIS with Mr. Hensel are making it their own “junglelicious,” inviting, and absolutely AWESOME room!!
As you can tell, they had such a great time painting. Unfortunately, they did not get finished. Below is the letter we left for the 2013 - 2014 class and future classes in that room (the font was in cooler than what this site allows):
To the future class of this room,
As the middle school leaves this building, the paintings of this room will remain. I want you to know a little about why this room is so special.
In 2010, many teachers in this district went to Atlanta, Georgia and toured a school instructed by Ron Clark. His school has brightly colored walls and the children have fun while learning in their themed classrooms.
On our way back to Paducah, Dr. Barbara Vick (our Assistant Superintendent at the time) asked me how my classroom was different than the classes at The Ron Clark Academy. I explained that students love colorful rooms and my students would want our classroom to be painted with a theme.
With Dr. Vick's permission and financial assistance, what you see in this classroom is what the Lone Oak Middle School students envisioned. If you want to see pictures of its creation, go to my school’s website at http://jonesloms.weebly.com/index.html We dedicated this room to the memory of Dr. Barbara Vick.
From all of the students who worked on this project, students who enjoyed learning in this room, and me, we hope that you love learning in this classroom. Maybe you will be able to finish the artwork and make it your own.
Enjoy!
